Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the life experiences of children in grandparent-headed families by focusing on the role of resilience.

Methods: Participants were seven children living in a mid-sizedcity in C province. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted (and voice-recorded) with each child, as well as with grandparents and teachers. A constant comparison method was used to organize and classify the data, indentifying meanings in the participants¡¯ experiences.
Results: Data analysis revealed one core category, four clusters of themes, and 12 themes. The results and implications of the study were discussed, and suggestions for future studies were proposed.

Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that children raised in grandparent-headed families can successfully cope with and adapt to daily life. Intimate relationships with the grandparents, emotional and financial support from the community, positivity, and hope may help the children adapt in spite of adverse conditions. Professional caregivers are advised to work from a strength-and-resilience perspective.
